Dame Betty Sunny-Hart is s Senior Magistrate in the Rivers State Judiciary in charge of Kpor magisterial District, Gokana L.G.A and magistrate Court 10, Port Harcourt. She hails from Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State. Born on April 17, 1972, she received her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, and Barrister at Law (BL) from the Nigerian Law School, Abuja.

She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2001, thereafter served the Nation under the NYSC scheme in 2002. She is a Chartered Mediator and Conciliator (ChCM).

During her days at Government Girls Secondary School, Finima, Bonny, Rivers State, she was appointed the School’s Games’ Prefect.

After her National Youth Service, she went into active legal practice and subsequently became the Managing Solicitor of Querida Associates, a private legal firm which she managed until her appointment as a Senior Magistrate Incidentally; she is the first female Bonny indigene to be so appointed.

She has served as Legal Adviser to the Bonny Local Government Council in 2009; the defunct All Peoples’ Party (APP); Jumbo House, Abalamabie; Legal Adviser/Secretary to Ken’s Welding Engineering Company; and Joe Kenali Nigeria Limited. She was the Director of Kaladinho Services Nigeria.

Dame Betty Sunny-Hart was a member of Nigeria Bar Association, Rivers State; currently a member of the Magistrates Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Branch and the Secretary of the Association’s Welfare Committee, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State.

She is a member of FIDA’s Parliamentary, Management, Publicity, Scholarship, Welfare and Ethics/Disciplinary Committees. She was the first female Secretary of the Bonny Lawyers Forum.

A devout Christian of the Anglican Communion, in 2010, she was investiture into the Knighthood of the Order of the Blessed Mary, she is the first female Secretary of the Niger Delta Diocesan Council of Knights, a member of the Joint Council of Knights, Diocesan Board, Diocesan Legal Committee, Mothers’ Union wand Women’s Guild, prayer group four (4) and Harvest Group Three (3). She has sever as the Chairperson of the 2009 Mother’s Day Committee of the St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church, Bonny, a patron of the Girl’s Guild of Holy Trinity Chuch, Banigo-Ishileogone, Bonny, Rivers State.

The Platinum Standard Publications Ltd conferred on her the Women of Excellence Merit Award and the Nigerian Merit Gold Award for Productivity in August 2014 and in the same year the United Nations appointed her a Peace Ambassador (AMBP).

Dame Betty is happily married with a son and a grandson.

Her hobbies include travelling to exotic places, watching football, counseling, reading and listening to radio.
